ABOUT TIBET
Tibet is a unique plateau nation between India and China, known for its high altitude, rich culture, and deep Buddhist heritage. Until 1949, Tibet maintained its own government, flag, language, and institutions.
The Dalai Lama
The Dalai Lama is regarded as the embodiment of compassion and the spiritual leader of Tibet. The 14th Dalai Lama has lived in exile in India since 1959 and is internationally respected for promoting peace and nonviolence.
Tibetan Buddhism
Rooted in Indian Buddhist teachings, Tibetan Buddhism emphasizes compassion, meditation, and the pursuit of enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.
China’s Occupation of Tibet
Since China’s invasion in 1949, Tibetans have faced severe human rights violations. Monasteries were destroyed, religious practice restricted, and cultural expression suppressed. Even today, displaying a Tibetan flag or photo of the Dalai Lama can lead to punishment.
Tibet Today
Tibet remains under intense Chinese control, with widespread surveillance and restrictions on freedom of religion and speech. Despite this, Tibetans continue to preserve their identity and advocate for their rights.
